Area man has decent father's day.

It was an eventful Father's day weekend for me. First, we went to the Buckethead concert at the Orpheum. Crowd wasn't huge so we got pretty close to the man in the mask and really enjoyed the shred he laid down. Wow.

The true father's day started with a quick trip to the bagel shop and my favorite coffee shop with Tess. While waiting in line to place our order we received some unexpected verbal abuse from a nearby table. Seated there were a odd-looking creepily stubble-laden yet baby faced guy in a pink vampire cape and boxer-ish shorts and a bearded fellow in a cocktail dress. The chubby vampire proceeded to stare us down from a distance of less than 3 feet and proclaimed: 'Don't get mad, get EVEN!' while staring fiercely at Tess and me. Yes it was weird...but we took it in stride...even the third time he did it..."He's rehearsing for a play, I bet" is what I told Tess. Interesting that Tess and actually encountered the cross-dressing fellow downtown the previous day. He was harmless...whereas the other guy was a bit unstable. Tess and I had a fun discussion on the way back to the car about the distinction between strange, weird, and creepy as they related to human nature. It sort of topped off our various family conversations about Anthony Weiner during the previous week or two...Weiner is a hilarious combination of the three. And a dick to boot.

We got home and Carrie and the kids gave me gifts. One was a DVD slide show of many pictures of our family over the last 12 years. We take a lot of pictures. It was severely touching and I got something in my eye toward the end....then I topped it off by saying: "I don't know whether I should retire or die after watching that." Always the wise-ass. Carrie also gave me a card of sorts:

Trent gave me a hilarious picture of the sun, and I hinted that it would make an awesome tattoo with a little more work. Maybe my first?

Later in the morning I discovered that my trip to NYC in August coincided exactly with the Zappa Plays Zappa concert (opening for Return to Forever!) at the Beacon Theater. Thus, tickets were purchased. Fuckin' A....I get lucky like that all the time. Can't last forever. After that we cleaned a small part of the garage while I prepped for a river trip that begins on Wednesday. That will also be awesome.

After the thrilling stint in the garage, one of my simple wishes in life was fulfilled. Since Tess had finally learned to ride a bike earlier in the week, the entire family actually went on a bike ride. On the way home, we visited the community pool that is in our neighborhood to find that it is really nice, and really close. We quickly rode home (3 blocks from the pool), got suited up, and headed back for a swim. Awesome. Then we hit the hot tub. Life is good.

Oh yeah, and then Tessa painted my toenails for the river trip...
